I sat around with a bit of a summer cold,
I was looking at the Subject of Ovals: projects and builds.
To my amazement there’s a lot of unfinished projects sitting in garages…
Or put out to pasture…or hopefully sold.
Note my counts are rough estimates,
I counted approximately 44 B’s or P’s
In which I counted

9 finished cars. Razz Very Happy
6 sold Very Happy Very Happy
30 not finished or died on the vine… Embarassed #Sleep

That would mean there’s a lot of projects out there to be had…
Or a source for a lot of Oval parts
Or a lot of misplaced parts fasteners.

Finishing a restoration is hard. It gets harder the higher level you try to achieve. I am battling one myself and stuck trying to get metal work and paint. It takes the wind out of your sails big time. I continue to chip away at it but can’t see the finish line. I have contemplated selling it because it is so mentally taxing.

well mines been on the rotisserie for four years. 96 percent done. higher level yes, anyone can build a custom, correct engine, panels and fasteners take a toll. current time on this ten years not a oval but a split. sure many sitting in shops but none for sale, cause most say, I'm going to get on it one day.

Are you asking for an estimate?

Granted, it depends on the condition of the car, but if you’re going to strip it completely down, your looking at $20k in panels/metal work/paint and another $20k to finish

If you do more yourself, the cost obviously comes down.

This doesn’t include the original purchase price…

This hobby isn’t about making money…

Good points Tex

Lard, I see you purchase aftermarket fenders, howd they line up?
What year oval are you wrenching on?
Im on my 3rd Oval, now reassemble begings.
Slow and methodical ...at times frustrating...but better than a game of golf...fishing bowling..
55's can be strange birds.

I did buy a set of Klassic Fab fenders. They kind of line up but will need a bunch of work. I am not using them on my project. Opted to use the originals.

Mine is the 55 in my sig. Its basically a 54. Going all stock. Chassis work has been completed. Powder coated and replaced pan halves. All original hardware plated black zinc. Front end powder coated and plated. Transaxle rebuilt and motor built. Just need to assemble as a roller. Frustratingly stuck on metal work. Everyone is backed up for years. Haven’t even though about who will paint it.

Make that 31 not finished as my oval is in year 10 of restoration and I don't have a build thread on here.

Lots of folks haven’t returned to TS. So knowledge of there build will remain a mystery…
some are stuck in a much needed garage, taking up much needed space…with metal shaving from the project in the daily laundry from washer an dryer sharing that space.with boxes being stacked on that dream.

But just like everything else in life, the more times you do a task, the easier it gets! I am on restoration number 5. Next one up is the FIL’s 57 Bel Air! Got to finish the 54 first!

only 10X?

I took the glass out of my convertible quarter panel window frames in less than 30 minutes. I have at least 4 hrs into one of them and they are still in 2 pieces.
