Two questions, well three actually.

When did the domed top oil cooler end and the flat topped one start? I see lots of ads for domed ones calling them '56 or '57. I have a very original '56 singlecab engine that has a flat topped one.

Are they date coded? Some seem to be with numbers stamped under the flange. I have one stamped "3 6" and another "1 12 K", and idea what they mean?

Unrelated to oil coolers, I am looking for the engine bolt torque specs for 36hp engines. My '52-'57 Bentley reprint does not have them (unless I am missing something, looked through a lot of it). Another doc? On line somewhere?

Thanks

JH

Hi John,

Progressive Refinements has quite a few changes to the oil cooler going on in 1956-57:

Dec 56, cooler now with support (domed)
Apr 57, now brazed painted black shorter soldered
May 57 short back to tall brazed
july 57 brazed again formerly soldered
Aug 57 same as above brazed
Sep 57 same soldered
Oct 57 support discontinued

I've never seen a flat topped oil cooler with the support so I'd guess after October 1957. There is an earlier listing stating the date codes started appearing on the coolers.

John Muir's Idiot manual has a torque table in the back of it's earlier editions at least, 36 hp-1500.

February 1958 was definitely flat-top...
