I acquired an 84 vanagon last fall that was an abandoned restoration. I thought I would share my build. I don't have a lot of pics up till now, but will try to snap a few more as its picking up speed now.
This is how i got it with about 6 boxes of parts.

| Definitely a big difference, must be all that clean white snow making it look good! |

generally I'm nearly the last one to be a safety police
and since hindsight is 20/20
I would not allow anyone (kid nor adult) to stand in the line of fire of that winch cable while under tension & working load.
but kudos on the saving of a van and adding new life to it. _________________

What does one achieve by declaring this?
Nice colour. Good luck on the build! |

I would seriously hope to achieve a little safety awareness for the next time.
and by offering a word of caution (dare say wisdom) on a public reply vs a PM that hopefully some other future winch operator doesn't place their off spring in unnecessary and direct danger.
otherwise heck it's not my kid and he's ok this time..
tell him it's ok not to wear his seatbelt in the car
and give him espresso before bed too.
soo what was DUB84 achieve by questioning why?
just a reply.. simple as that.. _________________

| The previous owner took out the connections on the side of the van and welded a panel in. I'm assuming because of rust. So, instead of ruining the body work already done, I'll do away with the water tank fill and move the 110v and the city water connection. The propane exhaust hole is still there so that'll be the same. I'll be moving the connections to the floor under the cabinet. The propane tank wasn't there when i got it, so im still trying to figure out how to run propane. I have a bbq regulator with dual hoses. I'll use that temporarily to see how much gas i actually use. I'll post some pics this week. I'm building a bulkhead plate for the city water to go where the propane used to go through the floor. |

Finally got a working gas cap. When I got the vanagon, it came with a brand new gas cap but no key. I'm guessing it got lost along the way from different owners trying to finish her. I was going to buy a new cap but i figured i should look up on the good ol interweb and see if i can rekey cap. (new cap would have cost me $50). I ended up just pulling out the tumblers and voila, brand new working gas cap.
that is all... |
