1985/6 Vanagon/Westy when shifting up or down into 3rd gear it grinds unless you double clutch. what is going on here? thanks Scot

Mine will sometimes do the same. Advice given to me was to shift slower. No more grind.

I have shifted slower and double clutching works fine. out in the country where we live it is not a real life crisis. if you were in stop and go it might be more annoying.

Maybe your synchronizer ring is warn or broken.
