|
|
Maybe a simple question but I searched the forum for everything on split case transmissions with no luck. I have mine out of my 56 and have all the bolts out, nose cone off, etc. It will not come apart. Am I missing something? I don't want to screw it up but how is the best way to split the case on the original tranny from a 56?
Thanks for your help |

there is a small nut and/or stud next to where the axle tube flanges bolt on. it is easily missed, often covered with gunk and not visible. if you are certain all bolts are removed, tap the case halves apart with a rubber mallet, alternating between tapping inside the bellhousing and the little tab near the front of the transmission case.
one other thing. if you have the trans in an engine stand, make sure the yoke is bolted to the left case half.
you can see the small nut and the yoke on the left half in this pic.

| Thank you. I cleaned it off and found that bolt. I will take it off tomorrow. BTW that is one nice transmission. I hope mine can be that nice when it grows up. |

you need to take the axle nut, and drum off first. then you need to remove the bearing and axle tube off the axle.
its not going to split with that stuff still attached. |
