I am removing the stock radio that doesn't work very well and replacing it with a unit that was in my daughters 1996 Jetta that I took out before it was traded. I want to use as much of the original wiring as possible. I am not sure what wires go where on the Heidelberg II. It looks like it just has left and right banks of speakers. I am looking for the least work, best result options. Suggestions please. Any breakdown of the Heidelberg II wiring would be helpful- Not in the Bentley or on-line that I can find.

Have you got any other info on that unit?
Serial Number, Part Number, Model Number?

Cut all the wires off the back of the stock radio and throw it in the trash.

Now, pull the speakers and check the colors of the wires. This will tell you which wires in the dash feed which speaker.
The stock radio doesn't have an ignition switch, but you can pull one off of the fan light really easily. Worth the 15min so you can't accidentally leave the radio on.
That should be it. Ground and power should be obvious.
Those RCA wires are for a sub or an external CD changer.

Don't bother fussing around with a harness. Just crimp all the wired individually with stak-ons. It takes an extra 5min to pull the stereo, but so what.

This will still sound really crappy compared to any car made in the last 20yrs. If you spend $100 on speakers and run dedicated grounds, you will be much happier in the end.

Sounds like a plan! I will probably add new speakers in the near future. I think you are right about the progress made in the last 20 years. Thanks for the reply.
