Strange thing happened today. Last year I bought a wrecked 88 Westy
to take a few parts off. The Westy was hit hard in the front and the owner was devastated. Some of the personal touches on the van showed it was loved. I towed the van home taking the ferry on the trip back.
Well I recently sold the Westy to someone out West who needs the grey Westy interior. I am in Southern New England. After a few plans to come and get it that fell through he finally just hopped on a plane and is on his way here right now. Should be here in an hour.
Here is where I found out the van has ESP. I got an email from it original owner today asking what happened to the van. We haven't communicated since I picked it up last year. He got a strong urge all of a sudden that made him wonder about his old poor wrecked Westy. I think the van sent him some sort of telepathic message that he was gonna be moved.
The new owner who is on his way plans to use the poptop and interior to convert a passenger syncro to a Westy. Grey interiors must be hard to come buy. Anyways i just was spooked when I got the email from the old owner today the day the van is going. It was replaced with a low mile weekender that he bought in Cali and drive back to New York.
The crashed westy will live on in at least three different vans so not all is lost.

Cool story and yes, kinda spooky. It just goes to show you how attached people get to these vans. I have had 17 Westfalia's but the last three have really been close to my heart. When I was first getting into this habit, I could not pass on a $500 Westy.....I bought my first 11 Westy's to save them and once brought back to life, sold them for more than I bought them for....wash, rinse, repeat. There are a few of those that I wish I never would have parted with, but, they had to go to keep the fun going.....the $500, " I give up" deals are just not out there anymore. _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

Everybody out here who knows of one is thinking....."Um, yes they are and I'm saving up money this very minute planning to go get it....." I suspect in the usual Van-crazy areas they've all been spotted and inquired about, but in the rest of the nation they are parked behind rural homes, and sitting in sheds. Heh.

Since the crashed 88 left the driveway three people have stopped by wondering where it went. Two from out of the area that are regulars at Mystic Seaport Museum Shipyard. One of them had been leaving his business card on the door saying contact me. It was for a gutter cleaning service and all it said was call me. I though it was just a persistent salesman that wasnt very bright trying to sell me something I didn't need (old Victorian I have no gutters to clean. ). I was just tossing them. We got a good laugh when I told him. The other guys were just glorified tire kickers making claims that they would have given me huge money and it was fixable. That's were I pointed out that they looked at my van when I wasn't home that is 50 feet from the road and almost behind my house. They didn't really know what to say then. It was fun putting them on the spot. I did like the gutter cleaning guy. He has a syncro he picked up for a great price that has really low miles 50,000!!! It in pretty nice shape it's just sat for years and the coolant system has suffered because of this. He wants to make his a westy which is why he wanted the crashed 88. Going to post no trespass signs soon....
