How can I test the heater resistor switch?
We pulled the heater blower motor, and it works, we are checking the ground, but I don't really know where the resistor switch is and how to test.
Any help would be appreciated!
symptoms are no heater motor blowing action-- there was a big mouse nest, but not "in" the motor just the ducts.
It kind of makes me nervous to see so many things out of the van... like how will it ever go back together????

The resistor and the switch are 2 different things. The switch is on the dash and you turn it to one of 4 positions. The resistor is inside the heater box, attached to the wires that come from the switch.
The switch fails often but does not cost much to replace. The resistor fails mostly when the motor doesn't spin anymore but someone leaves the heater switch turned on anyway. The resistor is cooled by the heater fan and when the fan is turned on but not turning the resistor slowly cooks until done.

oops yep I was wrong. Is there any way to test the heater switch or resistor while it's all torn apart?
We had to get the mouse nest outta there anyway, so the dash had to come off anyway.

you can test the switch with a volt/ohm meter. do you have one? you dont need an expensive one. 10-15 bucks will get you a decent one from radio shack. you should have one for the van. do you have a bentley manual? if not, you GOTTA have one of those. link to new switch 12.95 at van-cafe:

Hi Tim-
Looks like Hubby and I were both turning on the rear heater fan so I had just ordered one switch and had them send two since nothing was blowing anywhere..
The front blower motor works when hard wired to the battery, so I was thinking we could test the switch and make sure it was the switch before we put the dash back together. So i kind of need a to b instructions to test the switch- we have an ohmeter but I guess don't know how to use it.
Yep I have a bentley, but can't really find much about the heater blower in it. Just pictures, but no trouble shooting.
thanks!
