My 62 Double has had brake trouble since I got it. Seemed there were alot of new parts under there, and most of the time it stopped fine, yet still at times it would pull left. Then sometimes it would pull right. It was getting to be downright dangerous. Then last week I noticed a drip from the right front wheel....
So after reading as much info on the forums as I could I decided against an expensive disc conversion and fixed what I had. I think I spent about $150 to fix or replace everything on the front wheels.
Some pics if your interested
Stripped and ready for the new parts.
I rebuilt the wheel cylinders
New rubber lines
I found a set of old new shoes at a local VW shop, the old guy was so impressed he found them he took me to the back to show how high on the shelf they were.
Back together, only pinched my finger between the adjuster and the shoe once...ouch!
Napa did a nice job turning the drums.
After bleeding the brakes with my little vacuum pump the pedal is awesome! I can even stop with my hands off the wheel!
Thanks for the help Samba! _________________ 1985 Sunroof Vanagon |

Attaboy. Every time you stop you'll feel a part of it all. |

keep an eye on your rear wheel cylinders, with the increased pressure in the system from the front replacement, the next weakest link is likely to start seeping _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.
