ok.i have an 88 vanagon 4 speed pretty nice rides good, runs good looks BAD i need a paint job.... anyway. about 4 months ago i was CRAZY about lowered vanagons i thought they looked pretty cool, so i decided to get some springs and shocks. put them on and i was amazed, i had the look i wanted. so i was all happy and havin a good ol time. when i drove it for the first time there was a slight clunk every bump i hit. sounds just like bad ball joints, well i already replace the top so i went ahead and did the bottom. it helped a little at first. but after a week it came back. front wheel bearings are new and tight. if i wiggle the crap out of all the wheels there is no slop wiggle clunk or anything. the bushings are good (i think?) they appear to be. i dont know what else to think but i do know it drives me crazy!! and ive even considered putting the stock springs back on.the only flaw is i bought some cheep shocks thinkin it would be good. i dont know if they could be clunking cause they are cheep but i know there was NO clunk at all with the stock springs/shocks. i dont know what else to think. anyone have some sort of guess of what it is???

as for the spacing of the coils, they kinda looked little different from stock, they were definately not as big in diameter. here they are if it helps http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C27-9879

uh no, the question is, is the spacing of all the coils even? Is it the same from top to bottom, or do some of the coils sit closer together (when loaded) than others? when out of the van they will look the same . . .

like thus,
