I have bought and installed a dozen or so klassic fab pieces on my 65 kombi (in progress). The quality is great, no complaints, only minor tweaks here and there. I need a long rocker and saw a scholfield on here for a reat price. Since the outside drivers side rocker is not a very technical piece, I thought " a good chance to save a couple bucks"....but is the profile correct? is it worth it? Thanks in advance! _________________ ________________
Thanks Marc

I've never used a scholfield rocker but have used other parts and the stamping was off, but decent. better than the Rudy red panels. If it the one in this pic, it looks to have been cut short...

Over the years, I have bought and installed four left side outer rockers and only one was full length with it bent over on the front to butt up against the dog leg. The others were shorter and made so I had to leave the front inch or so of the old rocker on the dog leg, then butt weld the new rocker to it. Is the scholfield rocker the shorter type that gets butt welded to the front end of the old rocker? Is there a brand that is full length and bent over on the front end? It has been so long, I cannot remember where I bought my one full length one at. _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |

I just did mine. I used a bus depot Klokkerhelm (sp) piece. It was full length. The profile was close and it was like 1/16 of and inch short. But after welding and grinding you can't tell. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

This one is more than an inch short. It looks like someone cut the rear off of it to use the wheel well opening area. |

It sure is a helluva lot easier to install the taller Gerson long side rocker. It comes up to the first horizontal brace & easier to fit. _________________ Looking for SO34 parts.

Nothing beats original sections. Hard to find rust free sections are rare. Every piece I have bought,WW,KF,and Schofield all need trimming and adjustment. Just take your time, you can do it!! |

I welded in a shoefield rocker in my bus many years ago. As you can see I did not use the entire length. I remember it fitting well with a nice profile.

Durfeec or anyone else who has welding in Klokkerheim panels; have you found the metal to weld like dirty, rusty steel even after thoroughly cleaning it? I've welded in a few section of the black stuff and it always welds like crap, as if the gas is turned off. I wonder what they put in the steel blend? |

I've had no problem welding the black rockers onto a bus body. I have used a mig welder. _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |

I just finished doing the long side rocker last week. It was the orange ones from CIP1. they're full length going up 8inches...the length was spot on perfect butting up at the front and lining up with the wheel well. the curve was a little under curved. To solve this I just lined things up and clamped things at the top...did my spot welds then just flexed it into place finishing up with the spot welds attatching to the inner rocker along the bottom. I used the curvature of the dogleg to guide me to when I had the curve perfect. All and all pretty decent. For the inner rocker I made my own out of 16 gauge that I had bent up. really solid. _________________ Wicked Fresh Coffee @ www.stubbornmule.ca |

I used the black one that I bought a few years back. it was a HORRIBLE fit and I spent a few weeks just fitting it. Granted, I'm not a pro at fitting panels, but it shouldn't have been as bad as it was... I would just go for gerson, its worth it |

In case there is one person left who doesn't know, the ruddy-colored panels have a "packing" primer on them, which must be removed and the metal conditioned (they shoot primer over smooth metal for shipping purposes, only). _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |

I stripped the black off and welded to the bare metal. They seemed to weld like any other metal. I used some of the black metal, orange stuff from CIP1 and some metal I cut outta a wrecked beetle for flat steel. All of it welded the same. I do however use gas-less mig wire. So it's not the prettiest weld but I gets ground off anyways.
I must say that the black and the orange floor panels are thinner than I could have liked. The black inner rockers didn't fit right at all. The length was right but the width seemed too much. So I split them and welded them back together smaller. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

Don't waste your time....
Get the Klassicfab 14" tall rocker, it is by far the easiest to install with best possible results by hiding the seam behind horizontal wall support.
A very nice bonus for buses without interior panels. _________________ DON'T SHIT WHERE YOU EAT! |
