| Has anyone else replaced their Frame Head Bottom Plate? Mine is rusted out on the passenger side. The rust is where the plate joins up with the floor pan. I assume that this plate needs to be replaced. I also need to replace the front axle beam due to rust on the bottom of the plaaates on the beam. What is the easiest way to work on these areas. I thought about flipping the chassis over. I have the tires off the chassis now. The transmission is still attaced, so are the axles and cv joints. I was trying to take the transmission out this weekend and forgot that the axles were still hooked up. I did no have the right size star bit I believe a 45 to remove the cv bolts, so I stopped and decided to ask for advise. I have a picture of jeff troy's car resting on the face of the tires standing on it's side from his cd. Is it ok to flip the chassis on it's side? I know that the tranny is good in my car and I would like to not have to remove it if possible. What is the weight of the stripped chassis? Sawhorses? Come on , Help Me Out! |

Hi there I got a `69 as well and as far as flipping the pan on its side or all the way over, GO NUTS. I've done it many times to work on my chassis. with the trans in you may notice gear oil leaking out of the vent hole but other than that it's not a problem. (heavy, but no prob) Just be carefull that the fuel line is capped off good and moved out of the way before you start welding and cutting etc. If you want to remove the trans. it would be easier to disconnect it at the outter c.v. joints than at the large gland nuts, but if your gonna do the brakes also remove the gland nuts and do it that way. The over all pan isn't that heavy 2-3 people could flip it over without a hitch. It's really just awkward to manuver. the lower plate is pretty straight forward to do providing you have the proper tools, any Q's Email me at:
