| Is it possible to install dual port heads on a (H block) 1500 engine? I would like to install a single Weber two barrel carb. on this engine. Does anyone have any experience with this application. The 1500 is running, in the car, and is in good condition. I would like to be able to get a modest increase in performance. |

| Yes, my understanding is that the 83 mm pistons/cylinders are the same diameter at the heads as the 85.5 mm that are in the 1600 cc dual port heads. You will need to change some of the sheet metal tin over the heads as well as the upper/inner heads studs, as the two upper studs are shorter due to the dual port manifold size. |

| Yes,they will bolt on.The only thing you might have to change is the two studs in the center on the upper side. Those two dual port studs are a different length. But I think that the 2-barrel would be way to much carburation for a 1500. |

Yes - the heads will fit the 1500 P&Cs, but there is one problem you may not have thought of - lower compression ratio.
The TP heads have a head volume which gives around 7.5:1 compression ratio with 1600 P&Cs. PUt these larger head-space head on smaller capacity P&Cs and the compression ratio will drop down to about 7:1. SO you'll loose a little power (but can use lower octane fuel).
Alternativley, you could install 1600P&Cs at the same time - no alternations are needed to the case.

IF you do decide to make the switch, I would also recomend upgrading to a doghouse style cooler, it's simple if you can find some parts off of another VW engine. It's gonna be needed with more power, and a larger carbs. I would also add a header, since those carbs are going to be using a lot of air, that air has got to go somewhere after it's burned...So a header is key.
Keep it real. Peace |
