|
|
When I have my iphone connected to the stereo via the auxiliary jack, it plays fine. If I connect it my cigarette lighter charger while it's playing, I get a terrible feedback. I have tried different chargers with no change. The sound frequency changes with engine rpm's which leads me to believe that there is a ground somewhere in the system. I have tweaked with the sound setting on the phone and stereo to make it barely audible, but I would like to eliminate it completely. Do others have this problem, or should I start chasing electrical gremlins? |

Might be a good idea to include what year and model Vanagon you own,
as well as what make and model stereo you have including what and how your speakers are wired...
it's all in the details... _________________ "The floggings will continue until morale improves"

So after hours of searching I'm pretty sure I found out the cause of this noise. It's not a Vanagon related problem, but an interesting read on car wiring. Wikipedia says this problem is known as a "ground loop" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_loop_%28electricity%29 If I understand this correctly, I have to have the stereo and cigarette lighter attached to a common ground and the interference should go away. I hope this fixes it. |

Just a word of caution... I killed two Ipod's running them off of my cigarette lighter. I personally wouldn't run any delicate electronics off the van's charging system without throwing some kind of power conditioner / protector inbetween.
Only took me twice to learn... |

Check with a local car stereo shop or a Radio Shack for a generic noise filter for your cigarette lighter. Will eliminate the hum or whir you are hearing, most likely. Cheap and easy install. _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L automatic (Daisy)
