First make sure you have new or good points and gapped .016... unless you have electronic ign of course... and hopefully no vacumme leaks. If you have a degreed pully great, otherwise that's where it can get tricky.
There are bout 7 different stock pulleys and all have different marks for different stock distiributors and timing specs.
As a genral rule of thumb 8-10 degrees advanced is good for 009, however NEARLY EVERY 009 has a slightly different curve, especially the later Brazillian ones as the Qulaity control is not as good as the older German 009's, (smooth body on dist and stamped GERMAN on the bottom)
Then reving the engine too about 2500-3000 make sure the total advance is not more that 32 degrees.
Some people rev it and set it at 32 then see where it is at when the engine comes back to Idle... (usually 7-10)I do it both ways to check...
Then raise or lower your final Idle to 800-900.
If you have any pinging or you onl;y can afford cheap unleadded then back it off if you hear ANY pinging on aceleration...
If everything is set right it should fire up without even touching the gas...
(unless you've negleted your heads and valve adjustments) Smile
