Fellow Split Owners
Im looking for pop out windows for my October of 1952 Zwitter. The "newer" pop outs seem to be just a little too big.
Can anyone advise on the year range for split/zwit pop-outs? Does anyone reproduce them? I imagine originals are difficult to find.
What are my options for finding pop outs for my Zwitter?
Thanks _________________ Tracy

- not much into correctness - more into function and any pop-out for 1964 and older would fit.
1965 and newer had much larger side glass and most definitely will not fit. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

| There are 3 styles of early pop-outs. The typical ones with the double round or kinda grooved style aluminum trim are correct for 56-64 beetles but will fit any pre 65 car. these are the most common and reasonably priced style. there are 2 earlier styles with squared style slab frames. Thicker and heavier looking. the earliest is the split window style with no rubber seal on the pop-out frame and they use a spoon style latch that is similar to the early bus popout spoon latches. these are the split window style. Then the zwitter through 55 style also has the slab style aluminum frame but has a seal and uses a knob style latch. Both of the early styles are rare and can go for $5-8000 when you can find them. Ricardo from Split parts unlimited in Argentina makes a nice repro of both early styles for just under $2000 but from other recent posts seems to be in jail now and his adds have all ended unfortunately. |

Sadly it is "made" not "makes". Unfortunately we should just assume he is out of the VW parts business for good. _________________ Chris

This photo appears in a WTB ad stating this is an oval window pop out. It has the rubber seal so according to your summary this would be the Zwitter through 55 style windows. Do you agree? _________________ Tracy

| That is correct. There is an older tread titled (popouts windows for a split) with some really good pictures in this forum too. |
