anyone know how to remove the ignition switch from a 1970 beetle without a key? My key is broken off in the switch and the book says that a key is needed to get the cylinder out.
Please help

pull the steering wheel and the turnsignal switch... Then there are two screws that hold a half moon cover over the ignition portion... remove that piece.... then with a small thin blade screw driver you can poke around and should be able to push in the steering lock "pin" that is holding the wheel locked and pull the whole ignition switch assembly up/out an inch or two.... If the wheel is "hard locked" you may have to try and wigggle it back and forth with a screw driver in the busted key slot and free it up first....
At any rate be paitient... keep trying... Once you fget the whole assembly up a few inches there is a little round hole that you stick a sharp 'AWL' or pointed instrument in and pry just the lock cylinder out with a copuple of flat blade screwdrivers, you then shoul be able to push the old broken key out from the backside, or install tumbler and key...
Been there done that several times, keep at it and read the instructions till it makes sense... Maybe someone else has another method to try as well.... that one works for me post again if you have trouble or success...
