I am replacing a pan seal on a 1964 Bug. There seems to be nails driven into the pan all around it. I suspect that it came from the factory and was used to hold down the original pan seal.
Do I need to remove all the nails before laying down the new seal or can I just lay the seal over the nail?
If I remove the nail, where can I find the correct replacement nails?
And lastly, what if I just made a small cut in the seal where the nail pokes thru and just press the seal on to the nail?
I would like to hear from anyone who has replaced a pan seal and possibly did it the same way as mentioned above.
Thanks

Iam in the process of replacing my pan seal. The little nails are twist tacks, I pulled out the original ones and used them. I bought some new ones too at home depot although they are longer. I don't think it is that important to replace them, just use some spray adhesive to keep the seal in place while you set the body on. Hope this is some help. Chris |

You can get the replacements from wolfsburg west, www.wolfsburgwest.com and I would pull out the old ones and use new ones if for no other reason that it is more correct. You could use a spray or silicone as well. |

Thanks for the info !! I'll be contacting Wolfsburg West since I'm restoring the '64 back to stock. Although the silicone makes better sense and is newer technology in keeping moisture and water from creeping under the seal. |
