Does anyone know if you can remove and reinstall the top bunk without taking the top off or the canvas off? _________________ 87 Wolfsburg Vanagon GL (The Caterpillar)

Yes, you can. I did this as part of my Westy interior removal. Don't recall the exact process or number of fasteners but I followed the Bentley and had it out without too much drama. Poptop and canvas remained in place the whole time. The front (foldout) portion of the upper bunk must be unbolted and removed, then you can take out the fixed rear portion of the bunk platform.
One other thing happened as a result of this. I left off the grey plastic A/C enclosure that bolts to the underside of the upper bunk platform and learned that the improved airflow provides better cooling to the front seat area than with the enclosure in place. Never did reinstall that plastic plenum piece and have not regretted it. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic, tragically crushed by a falling hickory tree in my own driveway and now gone, leaving me Vanagonless and with no plans to replace it, alas. |
