I was at a show today and saw this kit in the side lot. It seems to me like its an Porsche, but others keep telling me it's not. The bottom of the body doesn't bolt to a VW pan but it looks like a racecar body that was never assembled. Please help with IDng this.

It's the partial body shell from a Renault Alpine.

It's a Renault Alpine A110 body. There was never a kit version offered AFAIK.

WOW! that's a pretty rare car to be sitting outside for many years, while they have a Duster, Mazda truck and other common cars in the shop and this 1 of a kind car sitting in the yard with all it's panels and glass! The body has never had a hole drilled or paint since manufacturing. I just happen to go to a cruise at a local vocational school and saw the kit in the lot. I spoke with someone from the school but they didn't seem to know about it, they said it's been there for as much as 12yrs or more! I think i'm gonna inquire on the body to buy and re-sell it for fair market value. someone might just be looking for that vehicle. Never know.. Cool
thanx for the info guys!

Someone there knows what it is - and knows the value. A110's didn't just fall out of the woodwork...

No kidding. Makes you wonder why it's been sitting for so long though. My major concern would be the warpage of the body sitting unsupported for so long. Would make a nice project or someone with time and a tube frame.... go for it, Ramone!

I have a tube frame rail buggy complete but for an engine, I'd let it go pretty cheaply, but I'm in Massachusetts. It would probably go sweet inside of that shell.

Rick, it's got me thinking now! I would like to put a nice 2180cc turboed with a tubing chassis under that, but i would have to cut the whole bottom of the body... yeaaaa, i'm dreaming again!!!! Laughing

And then there's the trim and glass... those are hard to get, even in Europe.

Why? You could take the entire front clip and drivetrain of a FWD car and put it in there with the proper chassis. Or go old school and make it a rat rod with a small block to a rock-crusher transmission to the rear. From what I've read they were rear-engine, rear wheel drive, so the choice is up to you!
But yeah, like OG says, parts are gonna be tough to find. But if you can pick it up for next to nothing, then make it your own!

Check this site for more info on these things: http://www.clubalpinerenault.org.uk/

Whoever buys this would be better off transferring all the usable bits and the chassis from a rollover or hacked A110 or selling the shell and any parts included to someone with a wrecked A110, than putting a VW, Berrien, rail buggy or other chassis under it. That said, one of the mid-engine Sterling kit car chassis, with a Cadillac Northstar V8 drivetrain behind the seats and under a plexiglass rear window, with this Renault body crudely finished on top of the Sterling chassis, would be cool. I'm guessing this was a Dinalpin body from Mexico or Brazilian Willys Interlagos (both license-built A110s) that was never finished and made its way to the US as an aborted project, since no A110s of any kind were sold new here and this one lacks the rear fender vents of the French-built car.

The OP was kind of close on it being a Porsche, these are often said to be like a French 356, and the styling resembles the Abarth Carrera and the coachbuilt Apal 356 from Belgium.
