a fella on our forum found these pictures

This is a full size Westy which used to live in the Westfalia works museum before that was closed and the exhibits sold off recently.
Westfalia itself is currently in receivership (that's how I found these pics)
Here http://www.motor-klassik.de/markt/onlin ... 71801.html is the (German) article where I pilfered the pics from.
This has pictures of the other exhibits as well and a list of how much they sold for |
I know you fellas don't get to see high tops much.. so feast your eyes
my apologies if it's been seen before |

Interesting view, but what a waste of a nice van. Probably went into the crusher at some point.
**EDIT**
Not in the crusher, I just read it above. _________________ 4 speed 88 Westy |

judging by the views there's a lot of closet wannabe high toppers.. or maybe just nosey buggers
there's a ton of insulation on the roof.. better than my old immersion heater tank at home. |

I have a plan in the back of my mind to find a syncro someday and put a high top on it. The problem is everyone else and their brother have the same idea (at least the part about finding a syncro LOL). Does anyone have a pro/con list of the advantages of a hightop over a poptop? _________________ 4 speed 88 Westy |

Im debating on that...
Hi tops are available for 2k now, in Toronto. Thats about 4 hours away.
A site I read says a high top actually makes a Vanagon slighty more aerodynamic....
My hesitaition is the the not so much attaching it and cutting a whole in my roof, but instead how do I fininsh out my headliner and stuff?
Thats the tough part.... _________________ -Lorenzo

"Does anyone have a pro/con list of the advantages of a hightop over a poptop?"
I have a poptop and am interested in a highroof. Two benefits that occur to me immediately are greater space all the time (not just when the top is up) and better stealth camping possibilities (the poptop is a giveaway at those times).
Garages and parking decks might be problematic. |

Pros also include warmer cold weather camping and greater storage space. |

What's problematic is when you drive full speed under a low overpass that you never thought twice about with your poptop.
Southern State Parkway on Long Island comes to mind here... 8'6" clearance in the outside lanes _________________ '86 Syncro CHC Top AAZ Turbodiesel

Someone suggested I consider a high top if and when I sell S'WWs. Would the windage be more than loading the top. I can't see overheads on highways anyway being a factor as transport tractors have to be higher.
I have an underground garage at a place I go and I'm too scared to take the Westy in. It's down a steep slope with a 90 left turn and two way traffice. I haven't had the nerve to even try it. If it was level that would be one thing but combine steep slope and 90 degree turn?????
Back to the Hi Top. Are they common. I see a lot of new vans (non VW) used for business which seem to be much higher than in the past. Is this a new concept or was it created some place else.? Are they readily available?
What do you get for the suggested 2K? Oh I'm going to have lots of questions. Just when I think I've figured out what I want, another idea is dangled in front of me. I don't think my steep learning curve is going to ever level out to a gradual grade! _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

That pic is from a Westfalia high top Joker display that was in the Westfalia Museum. It was sold on German ebay last year when they closed the museum. _________________ 1978 Sage Green P22 Westfalia
