The stokemobile decided to give me a special birthday present yesterday. Pulling off the highway after 300 miles I found that I was stuck in fourth. Symptoms seem to strongly suggest the 3/4 synchro hub has has lost a section. So, are there any transmission shops in Alaska anyone recommends? Thanks ahead of time!

There is or at least was a guy in Wasilla that builds Syncro transmissions, I have heard he does a good job but is reported to take a while to get them finished. You check with Arctic Import or Accurate Import for contact information. I have never used him and prefer to send ours to AAtransaxle as I know they will do a good job, stand behind their work(even after the warranty period has run out), and support the Vanagon community.

Is AA even still open? I called the number on their site this week and heard a message saying the number was disconnected.

I needed parts for mine last fall.

http://www.avrparts.com/ had some syncro rings I'm told.

And for gears I got them here:

http://ranchotransaxles.com/contact.html

Local shop fixed it up once I got all the parts.
