im getting ready to order this cam and gear for my 2.1 rebuild....i believe i have read a thread that mentioned some issues with the cam gear lash clearances...
i think it was 10cent saying he has yet to find an eagle gear that fit properly...
can anyone shed some light....the cam gear from my stock cam is a "0" size...
thanks,

If the cam gear from your old cam is still good you could just drill out the rivets and reuse. The lash would then stay the same. Thats what I did on my air cooled rebuild and it worked out great.
You may have do enlarge the holes to get the new cam bolts to fit, if so use a drill press to make sure the new holes are perfectly centred. _________________ 1982 Air Cooled Vanagon Carat Weekender Interior

Unfortunately the Eagle cams (and all aftermarket cams for that matter) are ground on the early style billets with the small 3 rivet hub. The wbx cam uses the later style 4 rivet hub.
It was 10c that mentioned he had found all the aftermarket replacement cam gears to be a loose fit. IIRC he was sourcing cam gears out of Type 1 core motors. Since yours is a 0 gear, a new aftermarket gear might work for you since I think they are all 0 deviation gears.

They say they're zero-sized, but they're not, they're under, a lot, like -3.
Gene Berg has new aluminum ones with off-sizes, too. But even their std. is like a -1. I know from comparing their gears and OEM gears back to back on the same cam. Everyone's std. is under.
I was scavenging Type1 gears and adapting them to the new cams, but I ran into a problem with one, the gear stripped out, bent every valve in the engine. Turns out the OEM ones are magnesium, and that happens once in awhile, no one has a good reason why. So I get mine all from Berg anymore, for a pretty penny. _________________ Shop for unique and useful Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:
