That's pretty amazing on several levels. First of all, that they both ended up being US spec Syncros, Secondly, that they have both survived 22 years, and lastly that you ended up owning both of them without even trying to.
Post some pics.

My two are only 200 apart, which I thought was a miracle until I heard this.
Wow!

Oh,that's killer!!
I got a friend in France who had the same happened on an Audi that he bought for fixing up his rides.Same color and everything, just one number different into the VIN number,he didn't even bother to modify the numbers,he claimed a printing error at the french DMV

I just ran outside to check the vin on my Dove Blue 89' Syncro GL and guess what!
It's over 2000 off of your VINs. Darn, I had this feeling that I was going to have the next one in sequence.
Did either of yours come with a diff lock? Mine didn't and a lot of the other 89's I see don't have one either. VW was trying to save some money in 89 or something. Bummer for me. _________________ 89' Dove Blue Syncro Hightop |

My '80 Vanagon had a door tag indicating that it was built in 1979. The VIN# was 25A0008082. Does that mean it was number 8082 Vanagon ever built, or am I misinterpreting the VIN decoders? _________________ Casey--

That's pretty amazing about your twins! At first I thought you were going to say that you saw one for sale somewhere that was one # off of your VIN, but definitely NOT that you owned both unknowingly!
For VIN info, check it out:
http://www.vanagon.com/info/vin/index.htm
It says it's for '81-'91, but I would guess that a VIN from '80 could be interpreted similarly...? _________________ '86 Wolfy Westy Weekender

Wow, the odds of that happening are incredibly slim. Very cool!

Yes indeed.
25 is the model
A is for 1980
00 are safety equipment and internal check codes
08082 is the sequential number

Thanks, I certainly thought it was an early one. I'm sorta surprised that we were shipped vehicles that early in the production cycle. _________________ Casey--
