PostPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:30 pm    Post subject: Dash Board Changes Reply with quote

I have seen some references on the site as to the shape of the pod being slightly different.

Having a dash put in now, and I am reasonably sure I have the right one. Just wondering if anyone can outline the differences - maybe with pictures?

thanks in advance.

Not sure I am aware of 'Pod' changes in split window busses other than Barndoor?

But I am by no means an authority...

My understanding as well. Last week I noticed a couple of older posts mentioning a change, but of course I can't find them now.

A couple of changes I can think of off the top of my head.
Post barndoor to July 61 had a pointy speedo pod. August 61 to 67 had a rounded speedo pod.
Early (55-61?) Commercial, and Standards did not have a factory grab handle.
Some de Luxes did, but I don't know when that started.
August 62 was the start of the gas gauge in the dash.
67 had a different hole for the radio and different block off plate.
Thin lipped parcel tray up to about May 61. Some real late pointy speedo pods had the bigger notch for thick lipped parcel trays.
Other minor changes like an additional hole for 4 way flasher indicator on late models.

Doubtless there will be an expert along soon to detail more minutia on dash changes throughout the years.

Single cabs also do not have a hole in the pod for a rear dome light switch.

I can't remember for sure, but I think there are differences where the turn signal wire harness goes through it too.

And I'm pretty sure the hole got larger in '57 with the transition from 3-wire switch to the 6-wire.

How so? I know about the 67 delete plate being bigger, but what about any other changes?

I always heard this, too. But in this thread you can see that '67 bus with VIN 000706 has the later radio hole.

Bought this dash that came from CA. I was told it was from a 1957 bus.

My question : Is this a 57 dash and will it work for my 1959 kombi?

I don't see any differences between two.
