|
|
I'm not looking to race it around but, I'm curious how quick it would be compared to other cars. Steve and Greg Tims are putting and engine together for me (2.0) and it should be around 120-125hp or so to the crank. It is going into a 1800lb car with a basically stock trans. Is there any guesses on 0-60, 1/8 and 1/4 mile times? I will never run the car and it will be a daily driver.
Thanks guys! |

My '68 Beetle (1,810 lb without driver) with 131 HP to the wheels ran a best of 15.1 seconds in the 1/4-mile on radials. _________________ Neil.

Depending on tyres and gear ratio. But 15,0 - 15,4 is realistic with a short ratio trans like a 4,375. With a 4,125 about 0,2 sec slower.

I ran my 2007cc with 40 Dells @ a 15.8 @ 86mph, spinning hard on street radials, figure it was 125hp at the crank, 108 at the wheels. My guess is high 15's. _________________ '67 Sunroof

Mid 15's. My 1915 turbo puts 150 to the wheels, only run I did with it was in the blistering summer heat where it only managed a 14.5. Now that it's not 95*F outside, I plan to run it again. Hopefully I'll be in the 13's with just cooler temps. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

It sound like we will be running similar set-ups |

Dad's car had 130 at the wheels and ran 14.00 in the 1/4 the one time he ran it through.
4.125 with a 1.48 3rd, slippery Falken tires.
I believe it weighed less than 1800lbs without driver. _________________ 1967 VW Beetle

The motor should be finished Wednesday or Thursday and installed Friday. I can't wait! |

Im more worried about that stock trans. Ive got a 2litre 125 horse/120 torque Tims motor and it is pretty violent when you decide to stomp on it! Avoid wild eruptions and get a traction bar, Just my opinion. |

How long have you had it? Have you ran it in a 1/4? Are you still using the stock trans? KC Trans is right next door to the Tims I might have to visit them after I recover from the motor cost. Do you ever make it out to the IE? What did you put the motor in? |

Ive had that motor in my slightly lightened 62 bug for a few years and now that I live near Speedworld in Surprise Az ill be finding out 1/4 mile times soon but its backed-up to a tranny that is capable of handling 200 horses. the combo of torque and Hp on that motor Tims builds will impress you. Its not a highwinder as some of the other motors ive had but quite the stoplight to stoplight stomper. You will love it for your intended use but definetley invest in a tranny to get the most out of it... |

My car is about 1900lbs with 125 to the rear wheels and 130tq. 14.75 @ 90mph. Lots of tire spin. The stock trans will not hold on a sticky track. If your tires grab your transmission it toast. Well ether first gear, the spider gears, or the axles. Heck I went through a stock, 2 pro street, and now I have a pro street plus from KCR and its holding together. Good luck and have fun. _________________ 67 Bug w/2110

My 2110 in my 61 beetle (1840lbs) has been running with a stock IRS junkyard transmission since 2007, it is a street car that goes to the track once a year for a few runs. It usually runs mid 15's at 3000ft elevation.
Fun to drive and surprise the rednecks in their fancy V8 trucks around town or the RHD ricer boys. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

KCR is in the same complex as the Tims. The guy that runs KCR picked on 65 bug from we the was stolen from me then returned to me as an empty shell. That guy made a sweet ride out of it. It was in all kinds of magazines. That made me feel better about my loss. I will most likely use KCR if and when I need to. |
