I installed a set of weber IDF 40's with 4 1/2 x 7 x 3 1/2 filters and decklid springs hit on 70 ghia and big motor. Is this uncommon? Will going to shorter filters help or hurt?

not uncommon-they do sell a shorter airfilter - as for performance-you can't use velocity stacks, so minor loss, but other than that not really that much loss

This may seem like a stupid question, but it's something I'm ignorant about and have always been curious..

Can you run velocity stacks with the regular air filters and do you need to do anything special if you do?

I ran my 40 IDFs for years with just the filters, but then bought some velocity stacks, when I installed them, it seems like there's only maybe a 1/2 inch between the top of the stack and the top of the air filter.. is that too restrictive on intake?
