I have an excellent used '67 dual circuit MC with an NOS rebuild kit which I would like to use on the Goat'el which is '61. (I know where kombisutra and billmay stand on this issue Not talking ) Is it compatible with the early brakes or should I switch over to late brakes? I know I would need to swap the entire beam. That wouldn't be a bad thing as I would have a front sway bar which would be a plus. I still have a small nut trans. Would the late front brakes cause any problems with the early rear brakes?

1955-67 slave cylinder ID sizes are same. Use it if you want to or sell it to a 1967 owner for big bucks and install a 1971-79 MC for far less.

I've got three of them that I tried to sell with no offers. I guess I'll just use them myself.

Butchering the charm of the good old bus with NOT charming Star Wars technical bullshit will offend the hell out of it... don't be surprised if this happens:

I did it to my '62. The previous owner had already installed all the rest of the '67 running gear, so it wasn't a huge stretch. Works fine. Much safer. I've had brakes go out, so that's not something I care to risk. I also put 3 point retractable seat belts in ::gasp::! They can't deduct points for safety things if properly/cleanly installed...

I dismantled a '67 deluxe last century and kept ALL of the brake parts. When it is done the '61 will have the MC w/ original pushrod/arm and the correct pedal pan. I like going but stopping is even better!

IF you convert the brake lines exactly like the 67, maybe I'll cut you some slack. The whole alien head sprouting legs, is what happens when "clever" hippies fucked-up all the buses most of us have taken on. The best examples have always come to us bone stock. There's a splitter just like in the rear of the main brake line, at the front. You'll need to install it in order to prevent the exploding head scene. Be conscientious.

I forgot to mention that I had all the brake line stuff as well. And luckily this bus wasn't hacked to begin with. Even has uncut wheel wells, which is a plus. AND it came with a TON of rust! Hooray for me! My plan at the moment is to get it rolling for the 2012 SST. I would really like to get it done before OCTO in June 2011 so I can camp with VTO. The new venue is excellent.

crofty-I assume you mean my wipers will work better. I don't think I can install 2-speed wipers.

did you save the front sway bar that was stock only on 66 and 67 bus? i helped Joe Slack put one on his 60 DD walkthrough panel. i also installed 1 on my 65 walk thru panel/camper---direct bolt on.

I saved it but the beam in my bus is a stock '61 and I don't think it will bolt on except to the later torsion arms.

I thought the bushing would only fit on the later torsion arms.

Bill- I looked at the '67 beam I have and it looks like you are correct and the sway bar will simply bolt on. I was think it was like the '68 BJ beam I had in my DC. The sway bar on that actually bolted onto the lower torsion arm and had a bushing.
