Well I've become a victim of Vanagon Syndrome and I'm going through my checklist trying to trouble shoot. I'm going to replace my temp II sensor on my 91 vanagon 2.1 How much coolant is gonna come out of that hole and will I have to bleed out the coolant system after I'm done? Thanks in advance.

If you have the new sender within reach, and you place your finger over the hole once the old one is removed (while you grab the new sender), you won't lose more than tsp-tbsp worth.

However, if you take out the new sender, then walk away for a nap or something,...

I have never bled the system after a Temp II change and have never had any issues because of it.

Thanks, already did o2 sensor better gas mileage, but still the bucking idle issue, got a lot more checks, but at least I know this swap won't be too much of a pain.

Air flow meter, adjustment of throttle position switch and plug wires all cause bucking situations when they need to be replaced.

yea gotta read up on the throttle position switch, I checked it and I clicks as soon as you move the throttle, but I'm not getting a second click and the throttle stop screw is touching. Gotta read up on that too, it's a bit confusing, one place in the digifant pro-training manual it says don't touch, that it tells you to adjust. Just confused at this point and trying to replace as much stuff as I can. Thanks for help and advice.

This is a second start of the day but a cold one. As the tach hunts it usually drops further and further until it dies. At stop lights it feels like the person behind you just bumped your bumper.http://www.vwvid.com/m/videos/view/vanagon-syndrom

nope not temp 2 switch. When adjusting throttle switch and stop screw which do you do first. My stop screw is touching, should I try that first and then attempt to adjust throttle switch?

Vanagon syndrome is something that happens after prolonged operation, so rule that out.

Do the diagnostic that is in the manual step by step, maybe reading it over several times before you start. Could be the TSII sensor, could be vacuum leaks, could be something else. The way your tack seems to bounce would make me think it might be ignition related.

Is your idle control valve humming?
