I purchased a rack and pinion steering set up for my off road rail.

It will be installed, centered on my 6" widened beam with stock trailing arms. King-pin front end.

I have the rack, a weld-in mount, and the tierod ends. I will probably have to shorten my tierods as they were originally mounted to a stock VW steering box, but no biggie.

I was trying to find a write up or install instructions online on how to set it up to minimize bump-steer and everything else but I have not been able to find anything, google is failing me on this one.

Someone told me Saco had a write up on this but I couldn't find it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I went through the same thing a few years back. Took my beam and weld-in mount to Kustom1 in Orange and Stewart tack welded the mount in place at the correct angle for $20...couldn't beat that.

If you really want to do it yourself give them a call and they can probably tell you the correct angle over the phone.

You will most likely have to go with new tie rods since the short one will be too short to use in the center mount spot anyways.

IMO get the spindle gusset kit,get them reamed for the ford ends, use internationals on the rack end and go with chromoly tie rods. This will make a strong front end.

I had a guy in norwalk do mine when i upgraded my set up i think i spent 140 to have gussets welded, spindles reamed for ford ends, tie rods, and the rod ends.I later went to combo spindles for added strength.

Just dont mount it upside down, when I worked at the race track here in Vegas I had a guy do it once. I walked up just as he had finished it , I took one look and told him to try to turn the steering wheel, He turned the wheel to the right and the wheels turned to the left. It all depends where the rack mounts, in front of the axle center line or behind.

Sorry, I don't exactly agree with this info. There is no way to tell the correct angle of the rack mount without having it mocked up to your beam. You will want to tack the mount together, bolt the rack to it and use hose clamps to hold it to the beam. Next, you will want to cycle your suspension up and down and measure the toe change through travel. Play with the mount location until the change is minimized. There are too many factors involved to just guess. Beam mounting angle, spindle design. Take your time.
