Hi all. Can't seem to find the answer to a pretty simple question. My 57 lowlight is quite complete and easy to see that the running light circuit is hooked to the front turn signal as it should be according to the wiring diagram. However, my 58 according to the wiring diagram found on this site should have a separate running light in the headlight beam akin to the early beetle. Is this correct? This car was quite incomplete when I got it and the headlights that came with it are standard sealed beams like any of the 60's ghias I've owned in the past and my 57 with no provision for the extra light. I did have a Eurpopean lowlight ghia with a different headlight arrangement IIRC but this is a US spec car. Does anyone have a pic of what I'm looking for? I searched the gallery and the forums but couldn't find my answer. Thanks in advance

For what it's worth, page 49 in a '57 owners manual in the technical section here on theSamba shows a separate bulb for what may sometimes referred to as a "city light":

Thanks for the pic but that is the euro version I was referring to. Both my 57 and 58 are US spec cars. My 57 is wired with 2 wires to the turn signal for flasher and running light with a sealed beam for headlight. I’m assuming my 58 should be the same but the wiring diagram in the technical section shows the euro wiring with non sealed beam. My confusion comes because my car came with a single filament turn signal housing in its box of parts which I’m assuming or hoping is incorrect and should be dual filament.

US spec cars with sealed beam headlights have two terminal turn signals for all years of low lights. The single terminal front signals are for Ghias equipped with Euro headlight assemblies. So your 58 should have two terminal front signals and wire it up according to the 57 wiring diagram.

Thanks Loren, that’s what I thought, but the wiring diagram on this site and the parts bin for my 58 with a single wire turn signal had me confused. Much appreciated!
