Back in the late '80s, I purchased my first car - 1973 Super. I purchased a center console from JBugs which had holes pre-drilled for a 3 1/8 Tach and three 2 1/16 gauges...it was already covered in a velour. Looked real nice.

Unfortunately, I sold the car in 1995 (still kick myself for that).... I now have a 1974 Super and have purchased the same VDO gauges to recreate what I once had.

However, JBugs had no idea what I was talking about when I called and asked for a center gauge console. Plus I have searched on here...and many other websites with no luck.

I have found a few center consoles - but none with the pre-drilled holes for the three 2 1/16 gauges and the one 3 1/8 Tach. Has anyone come across such an animal in the 21st Century?

You probably won't. The trouble with pre-cut holes for gauges, radio, speakers, whatever is you are only going to appeal to someone who wants that specific set-up. An aftermarket can only survive if there is enough mass appeal -- not counting high-end, specialty items. If any of the folks at JBugs was there 16 years ago and don't even remember this item, that should speak volumes.

Of course on the plus side, spending the extra money to have someone custom-rig it for you -- complete with velour if that's your fancy -- is it won't be cookie cutter. Your car will be unique. I still get comments on my Super's unique features (rather than the expensive ones) and I haven't had it for three years now.

Thanks for the input....exactly what I was thinking.

I ended up making a gauge console. Now I just need to wire it all up. I'll post pics once complete.

Thanks again!
