Is your beetle macpherson strut?, that kit is for a super beetle, if I was you I would keep saving up and have a shop do the conversion for you. The reason I say that is because brakes can save your life, if you stuff something up and they fail you could kill yourself or someone else. _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1

There is always something you can do with $300 to make your bug safer. Granted - brakes are very important - but so is steering. Use that money to make sure your steering stuff - ball joints - steering shock absorber - steering box - tie rods etc are all in good shape - and the brakes you have now are working ok. Do the brake conversion after you have everything else up to snuff and then get a front end alignment. You'll appreciate what you did more than if you had just slapped some disc brakes on a car that might need front end work more than a set of brakes. Most of these things can be done incrementally as you have the money.
I'd venture to say your 41 year old car is in need of some front end attention unless these things have been done recently. _________________ 71 Ghia Coupe - stock body - no rust! Powered by a 2110 W/Dual HPMX 44's - Rancho Pro Street Transaxle - A/C by Gilmore

can you use the bug master cylinder/wheel cylinders? In other words, what all do you need to convert a (std) beetle front end to ghia discs?
1. Spindles
2. Rotors
3. Calipers
4. ?
5. Profit? _________________ ---

if in a real hurry you can bolt complete ghia beam into a 66-> beetle. use ghia maSTER OR NEW REPLACEMENT DUAL CIRCUIT MASTER IF GOING TO DISC. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

Not in a real hurry, and don't need a new beam. I found some spindles (3" lift) that are happy with stock Ghia brakes and want to upgrade to discs, anyway. Have a new Brax master cyl and need to replace the slaves. Just trying to get a shopping list. _________________ ---

the only thing thats wrong with my front end is it needs an alignment....everything else is good and in shape. I have a 70 standard beetle, dont know what a macpherson strut is. I dont see how converting brakes to disc coudl be so complicated that I could mess it up. brakes seem to be the most basic/easy to understand component on even the most complex cars. Im jsut trying to find exactly everything id need and some tips on what exactly would need to be done. A link to a site with everything all teh parts needed would be much appreciated. thanks! |

These will work - http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10-4124
Read all of the instructions - you will likely need new hoses - and get new front bearings and seals. The old races are a bitch to remove and reusing them isn't a great idea.
This kit includes new spindles and a backing plate/shield- not a bad idea to put them on a 41 year old bug. http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=479
I've ordered from both places - CB - which used to be Claude's Buggies - has been around as long as I can remember and are quite reputable. I've been around for a very long time! _________________ 71 Ghia Coupe - stock body - no rust! Powered by a 2110 W/Dual HPMX 44's - Rancho Pro Street Transaxle - A/C by Gilmore
