|
|
Hello-
I was reading about some hediously expensive vintage tires (Michelin XAS FF) that are made with the same compound as the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. The good news is that this compound sticks like crazy (once it's warmed up.) The bad news is that it hydroplanes easily, and has a very low UTQG rating (80).
Has anyone driven tires like these on the street? If so, how quickly did they wear out? How were they when cold? Once warm, did they really stick like crazy?
Thanks,

We fitted brand new Dunlop Racing tyres 16"s to our 356 made in original moulds(very cool looking! although slightly too fat) Very soft compound, yes they definitely do have improved road handling a LOT over the old crossplies that were on there. Skip about a lot in the wet mind you
'Faster wear' is not a problem on a 'toy' car that only does a hundred or so miles per year. A bigger issue is preventing flat spots while car is sat unused for long periods. _________________ Anna.

I put my car on jackstands when sitting for extended periods to prevent flatspots. Hoosier slicks ( not DOT ) If not you have to put up with a washboard ride for awhile untill they 'round' out. FUN

I know we should do that too, but the front end of a 356 is awkward to get up & down easily & support, that, and ok, we are just too lazy when we get home after a trip out in it
So, yes, we put up with the clown's car ride instead, and if its wet are too busy trying to stay on the road anyway to worry about it.
Good job we have'nt got seatbelts to deal with at the same time _________________ Anna.

Although I Haven't run them on the street, if you want a nice, Sticky tire-go with a Falken Azenis 615K. They stick like glue. _________________ Drag bus! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2MOVmKdhX4
