|
|
Hello,
I have a 61 convertible beetle. The holes were covered where the karmann badge is located on the passenger side quarter panel. Can anyone provide the correct dimensions so that I can relocate the badge in its proper place? Thanks, Mike |

61 would have the odd shaped badge similar to a Ghia. I have a 61 too, and I can provide you those later if someone else does not post it. Still loving that color on that vert Smitty (Mike). _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Yes, Ken you are correct. It has the oval shaped badge and I sure would appreciate it. Thanks and thanks for the compliments on the color. I'm getting it done. Haven't posted many pictures but I made good progress this last weekend. |

ALL RIGHT here we go. I have both a Ruby Red 61 (in spots) and a Yukon Yellow 66 Karmann Beetles at the moment that the bodies haven't been altered in that panel area.
The 61 is on my lift waiting it's turn and the 66 is parts only.
It would seem by these 2 they are not exactly the same but very close.
I measured from the bottom of the pinch seam up and from the forward edge of the seam. I'm sure these will help you get it close. Just be sure it's level or you'll hate yourself.
The 61 badge is centered approximately 10 3/8 - 10 1/2 up from the bottom and the first hole is approximately 1 1/16 to 1 1/8 from the forward edge.
The 66 was about the same height but measured a little further forward. Approx 1 1/4

Glad I could help
By the way.... If you dont want to redrill holes in the body, simply pull or cut the pins off the badge and use double sided tape. Good way to install without worries of chipping or scratching the paint, or having holes for potential water to enter. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Pins or tape?
Looks great either way.  _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

You need the pin retaining sockets that press into the body holes. Similar to the sockets that hold the VW 3 pin hood emblem. You can see the sockets are still on the body in my photos with the measurements above. Simply press those in the body, then press your emblem in the sockets.
Sockets are here:
