I have a serious problem with the turn signal switch that i bought second hand to install on my 1960 VW beetle sedan.

1) It does not cancel itself when the wheel turns back from turning

2) whenever i step on the brakes just one of the snow flakes lights up and;

3) now the turn light is not even blinking in the dashboard or working.

Can i fix these issues or should i consider on buying a new one (NOS) or brand new replica?

Need technical advice on this ASAP.

Here's a couple links that may help. I posted some pics of a 6 wire switch from my 60 sedan and glutamodo has a lot of good information in there as well.

This one has some good info about installing your steering wheel correctly, provided that you have the correct 60-61 steering wheel.

99% of the time these issues are caused by a bad ground or....a bad light bulb. Especially if it worked one day, then did not the next day.

As suggested above try new bulbs. Triple check all ground connections. Check bulb sockets. Clean them so there is absolutely no corrosion. Run another ground wire to the unit even temporarily to see if that changes things. I went through this with my 1960 bug. It was frustrating. The other problem could be with the switch itself. If you do a search you will find some concerns expressed about the quality of the new 60/61 turn signal switches. They may be better now - I don't know. I found a NOS switch and the quality when compared to a repro was substantially better. They occasionally come up on Samba but they are not cheap. Even the reproduction ones are not either. Good luck.

I am going to narrow the problem and purchase a brand new turn signal switch for my 1960 VW beetle sedan. Which one should i go for:

http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC-113-953-517-BWH

or

http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=113953517b

or

http://www.eisparts.com/113953517B.html

Looking for a high quality replacement compared to NOS

The CIP and EIS are probably the same one.

I can only vouch for the WW switch. I've bought 2 of them and am very happy with the quality.

Hello all, I have a 1961 as well with the snowflakes. I was able to get all my lights working with 6 cable turn signal switch; however, my light on the dash (speedometer) stays on and does not blink, same result with the bulbs when turn right or left.

I have tried plugging all cables to the relay but don’t know which one is the correct one. I tried connecting the black/green/white cable to the relay but when I do, the functions of everything else stops. Help please?
