|
|
I have a 67 Beetle and I dropped the front with drop spindles and an adjustable beam. I have the beam cranked all the way up and with the girlfriend and I in the car were bottoming out quite often. Oh and I have smart car tires on the front as well.
I'm thinking I want to put stock spindles back on and just lower the beam some.
Anyone have suggestions? |

Don't do that sort of thing in the Beetle. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Depending on the condition of your whole suspension setup, lowering the car does make the ride a bit harsher. I would go with stock spindles and an adjustable beam. But before you go back, what is the condition of your shocks and torsion bars? Worn out shocks are not as good as fresh good quality ones |

Define “bottoming out”. Are the fenders rubbing on the tires? Are the tires hitting the headlight buckets? Or are the shocks bottoming out? _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Stock a BJ beam has about ~4" of travel.
Wth an adjustable beam and stock spindles you lose some of that travel when you lower it.
When you do get it adjusted to where you like the look you will probably need to use short shocks too.
This combo makes for a bouncy ride and can often bottom out too.
If you just want a ~2-2.5" drop using the stock beam with dropped spindles will give you the best ride because you maintain the stock travel and shocks. _________________ -Bruce

I used 2.5 inch drop spindles and stock suspension with new shocks. I run stock tires and no rub on my 67. The 63 has a adjustable beam and drop spindles. Running widened Porsche steel wheels and bigger than stock wheels. Rubs and rides much worse. But the look is better for this car.
