Tried installing a GW auxilary battery and it works but now I'm getting a tick tock noise from the little black box under the steering wheel and the starter will not turn over. Uninstalled the battery and same problem. Fuse or something triped? Where do I look?
Thanks
Please help

Basic electricity of a Vanaggon.

Battery as 2 + wire, 1 big and one small.
The small goes to the fuse box and give energy to the dash and all van electric component. This wire is surely loose behind the fuse box. Any main + wire in the box could be loose.

Current is then send to ignition switch then back to light and starter.

That said, that single red wire as a lot on it's shoulders. It was ok 25 years ago but it's getting old. It will create with time all sort of electric flaws.

A simple volt meter can't tell you if your missing amp, you may see 12V but you got no amp.

So start by removing the fuse box and check every single wire in there.
