hi, upon my quest for parts for my RHD 1956 vw beetle, the hardest part to come by was this,
no where on the web are these things being reproduced, and you cant just "flip" a lhd one around, you have to cut the shaft, and weld it back on 90 degrees in one spot.
it got me thinking, i have access to tools, welders, a person who can chrome things, i would count myself as a pretty good metal worker, if i was to make batches of these, is there a market do you think?
thanks

I'd take one dude. _________________ Danny: I don't advise a haircut, man. All hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hairs are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight. |

Blair, good idea, as the mount is the same for both left and right its really just the rod that needs to be repoped. The LHD ones are fairly cheap so pull one apart, use the mirror head and mount, and the RHD copy rod that you make. Easy as that, if you need a sample to copy from I've got a ratty one arriving in the next couple of weeks. _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1

ok, so the whole operation would be to drill out the pins at the back of the mount, remove the pole, undo the "pinch" on the aluminum glass holder to get the glass out, cut and re weld the pole, get it them rechromed, what are will people be prepared to pay for these modified ones?
i will order a LHD one and rip it apart to see how easy this will be.. I'll keep you guys updated

I spoke to WW and they source their LHD ones from Vintage Parts. I haven't contacted them to see if they could swap them to RHD. |
