I've got a 73 I am putting a custom dash in, and wanted to get rid of the stock switches. The wiper was the hardest, because of the park feature, but after playing around a bit, I finally came up with a workable solution. It involves a DPDT rocker switch (on-off-on) and a relay (Note: the relay has to be a 5-pin, a 4-pin will not work, because the normally closed contact has to be used for the park and the 4-pin only has the normally open contact). Anyways, if anyone's interested, here's the diagrams of how I did it.
The first pic is the basic wiring diagram:
The next show current flow in the various switch positions. The red line indicates the current path.
I know this will also work with the 72, but beyond that, I'm not sure.
Hope this helps someone, if anyone has questions, dont hesitate to ask.
Thanks! _________________ Current car:

I have a 1973 Std Beetle and wired it up today with your schematic and it worked great! I also used this article: http://www.eleinmec.com/article.asp?12 to help me figure out which wires are high/low/off on the back of my switch because I'm still new to wiring Thanks for the diagram! |

What 5 pin relay (model number and manufacture if possible) for this. I too want to use a two way switch and this will simplify my install
ALSO, I hooked up my 75 superbeetle wiper assembly and I could not get the park to work. I was able to get it to work a couple of times and then it stopped working. I am thinking I may have burned up a brush??? |
