What do you guys recommend for oil, oil weight?

In my square I use Shell Rotella T 15W40. For plugs I use the stock Bosch stuff, dont know what the part number is for the wires, plugs are WR8AC.
Ive heard the NGK's are good. Use this to figure out what you need if you run them.

Oil filter? Whats that?
Again this is just what I run, you might find you need to run something else. I noticed you are up north, so maybe you might want to run a lighter vicosity oil? _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Rotella or Castrol GTX high mileage here. I'd recommend Rotella in anything higher mileage, it works wonders. _________________ ~Craig

you guys know they changed the Rotella formula a few years ago and it's not the same high zinc content anymore right?
the closest i've found now is delvac. i've been using valvoline vr-1 racing oil recently. if brad penn were stocked some where local i'd probably try it but i've heard nearly as good a feed back on the vr-1.
NGK have been my favorite plugs for a while.
and Bosch wires...ken... _________________ ITMC

I had heard that, but from what I read it still has higher zinc levels than other conventional oils. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

don't get me wrong it's still better than most conventional oils but not as good as it was a few years ago. trust me i was die hard rotella for many years. when they changed the content i hit every local spot i could an bought up the old higher content version. vr-1 has higher content and i see it on sale for $4(usually $5ish) or so a quart every so often...ken.... _________________ ITMC

| I just bought a set of the NGK plugs for my build. I don't think the old Bosch ones are available anymore other than NOS. The new ones have a resistor in them. Not sure how it affects performance. |

| Zinc helps reduce wear on flat-tappet cams. I'm not sure how important it is because a lot of modern engines use aluminum cam followers, and they don't get smoked using low-zinc oil. Roller cam engines don't care what you run. |

Well, I've noticed Rotella makes a decent difference in high-mileage modern cars as well. Ran it in my smokey, 380,000 mile Nissan for a bit and it helped it out by leaps and bounds. I knew the valve guides were shot and it cut the smoke show down to a minor puff after a few oil changes. Oil consumption was down as well. _________________ ~Craig

Thanks for all of the help!
I ended up putting quaker state high mileage, and have notice a difference already in sound and performance....
Thanks again!
It's air filter/oil bath attention time! |
