Why a 2276? What is your budget for the motor? When you build any type of high performance motor for an ACVW you should know as much about the motors as possible. There are too many fly by night A holes out there that will take your money and give you junk in return. What are you looking to achieve speed, torque or reliability? If you are looking for great torque and reliability look in to a type 4 conversion. I would say price out the individual pieces and get a real good idea of what you want before you hand over any hard earned cash.
The answer for your second question is I don't believe there is a reputable shop here in Vegas and very few in the country that you will not get burned by unless you have deep pockets. Even then if something goes wrong they can say you over reved or any other lame excuse to not back the motor. Remember it is High Performance and that alone is a no return policy like electrical parts. _________________ "What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: 'tis dearness only that gives everything its value. thanks for the response, yeah i havent heard to many good things about some of the shops here in vegas, any ones particular to stay away from?
yeah i was looking into them and man were they expensive... i got into an accident a few weeks ago and my car was declared a total loss, instead of getting into another new car i figured the money i got from the accident i could finally use to put into my squareback. since im only going to get a few grand out of it i have to be very sure of where to put my money in, definitely need a new transmission and will probably just end up getting my engine rebuilt. i also have to find a good body shop :/ any tips would be much appreciated! |

Is it The Squareback with the BRM's and the roof rack in Henderson? _________________ "What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: 'tis dearness only that gives everything its value. As far as transmissions go, RC trans just off of Desert inn is good in my opinion. I have Had John build a trans for me. I haven't used it yet because I am building my motor and want to put it in with the motor. But I have heard nothing but good things about his work.
I think when you build a motor you should buy all the pieces and find some one that is competent enough to assemble it with you or for you. I think you will get the most for your money that way. There are shops out there that will tell you you don't need the stock tin pieces on your motor. That should be a Big red flag of there competency. Don't have the heads built it is cheaper to just buy the Steve tims heads or what ever you think you want. You can buy a case done ( opened up for 94's,full flowed etc...) Crank, cam , rods, bearings etc... But remember some times the whizzbang parts can be Chines crap out of the box. _________________ "What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: 'tis dearness only that gives everything its value. I'm running a 2275 (What the heck is the difference between a 2276 and 2275????) in my Squareback and love it.
Buuuuuuuuut
I know it's a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. I wish it was built with 90.5 PC's. I've been thinking about downsizing from my 92's to 90.5's just so I have better cooling and relaibility. I've heard many say a 2180 is a really good combo for daily use.
That said, I've had my Squareback as my daily driver for a year now and racked up about 10K miles on the engine. Still pulls like a raped ape and fires off just as quick as you can turn the ignition key. So maybe I should just maintain it and drive it.
82mm stroke is a whole nother world of fun. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

I don't think a 2276(5) is built with 92s... A 2276 is 82mm (crank) x 94mm (pistons)
What crank do you have?
I think that a 2110 (82 x 90.5) is a perfect stroker motor. I know a ton of folks running this configuration.
The best person to build your motor is YOU. Do your homework. Get a good machine shop (Brother's, VW Paradise) to do the work that you cannot. Assembly isn't that tough. _________________ Phillip Bradfield

Ah, that is a cool chart.
I haven't looked at the paper work for the engine build in almost a year. It's an 82x94.
Now I'm remembering folks telling me to step back to 92's to increase my cooling along the cylinder walls. I guess 94's are a little thin.
So there is no 2275, I have a 2276. Cool, thanks for posting the chart. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

I should do some looking into about this. I always thought 94's were the thin walled cylinders. Maybe I actually have a pretty robust setup? It's certainly proven to be so far. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |
