Hey everyone; when i bought the bus the PO gave me heater boxes and they say 72-74 on them w a sharpie. I am guessing they go to a 72-74 bus. But my bus is a 77. I have done some searching and it looks like some people have used the 72-74 heater boxes and then installing a particular muffler to them. Well im trying to figure out what would be the best muffler to install on my 77 bus while utilizing these 72-74 heater boxes, any suggestions?

This one seems like a pretty popular choice.
I put it on my engine when I converted to the 72-74 setup.
So far, so good.http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/home.php?cat=353

Should I disregard the quote, "This system WILL NOT work for the 1975-1978 model Bus!!" when using the 72-74 headers?

And just to double check, is there any mods that need to be done when using the 72-74 heater boxes?

Thank you very much!

That quote only means that the exhaust wont mount to the 75-78 heater boxes.

Do you have the necessary 72-74 tin to do the heater box/exhaust conversion?

This link, among others, has the info you need.
