Trick or Treat... some guys in brown costumes came by the house this afternoon and dropped off some candy.
Still waiting on the cargo floor and the left rear corner. |

Hot damn. This is going to be something.
PS - FWIW, my DC was refitted with a 2.0-L FI GD engine, and it is wonderful. _________________ John

I still have not decided on a power plant yet. I have a 2.0 core laying around. |

Update. Not much has happened. After the bed and cargo floor were removed we decided to sandblast what was revealed. It cleaned up very nice. A few of the bed support spars were rusted through in spots, plus a few need to be removed so the body man can access the cargo floor and inner wheel tub more easily. So I had 7 spars made of the guage and size as those removed. I am still waiting on a few pieces from Gerson. Work on it should start picking up soon.

Nice work babysnakes! That metal looks awfully pitted, another couple years and I bet they would have rusted right through

yes, this resto is a financial disaster(most good ones are), and yet you are still lucky- you have a good body man and a most desirable model of the type 2.
know that we are all quite jealous. |

How about a color mixture somewhere between the funky green and Federal Reserve green? An ugly color but it would be outstanding.
And I vote for leaving the floor and all the panels off of it. Just the rebuilt structure and nicely detailed mechanicals. And then sell viewing tickets at shows to recoup the coin. _________________ 71 Superbug

I agree. I'm so glad I owned a single cab for a year just to have had the chance to look it over inside and out! The rust made it even easier to see inside!! _________________ '71 Westy |

So it's been a couple of days since it was blasted, and you're in Florida, so how rusty is it now? _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

Not rusty at all. It was sealed up within an hour. It took a while to get it blasted because we had to wait on the best weather.
This is not a hurry up and wait project. It takes patience and timing to get things as good as possible. We must have postponed the blasting half a dozen times or more.
As far as the color, no decision yet. I am not a fan of the stock poopy brown. |

Another great post on one of my dream VWs. A friend of my parents had two single cabs in a large barn for years. I remember climbing all over them when I was too young to know what they were. After I bought my bus he came by to check it out and told me he sold them five years earlier to someone for 2000 for the pair. He wished he still had them, and so did I. Truly barn find bays!!! _________________ Can it wait till Im old.. Can I live while Im young

Wow, I wish the PO of mine did what you are doing.
Mine was redone by someone, I think they use a good bit of bondo...it is what it is. The way I look at it-I will enjoy it now-and it looks decent enough that when I show up on a job my clients are generally happy to see it.
I have been redoing/repairing all previous work one bit at a time. SO I know at some point the gates will need work, but they work for now. At some point I'll take them off, blast them, try to straighten them as bet I can, repaint and re-install. But for now...I'm just trying to enjoy it.
I am a stock type of person, although I do like some modern conveniences and maybe some 'hidden' upgrades. Like a bigger engine, or the disc brakes that were put on mine.
Keep up the good work... _________________ -Kevin

So, what kind of discs did they use? I would like to go that route when I install a bigger motor. |
