When I rebuilt my 1970 Fastback last year, I had to fit all new foam inserts and seat covers (ex TMI) because the ones in the car were totally destroyed. I am driving my car almost every day as a daily driver, and loving it, but found the seats a bit sweaty in hot weather, and did not really support me very well laterally. So I have reverted to something I have fitted to my last several cars - Sheepskin covers.
As mentioned in another post about Type 3 seats, the hinge mechanism is quite a long way forwards (see pic below) so that the base of the seat back moves forwards quite a long way (to enable easier access into the back seats). This means that regular one-piece seat covers won't work because they would pull away from the seat base. Sheepskins are brilliant for keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter, so I had a supplier make me up some covers with a separate base and top so that the seat back can still move forwards over the base. In order to keep costs down, I have real sheepskins on the front surfaces, but fake sheepskin ( Shocked ) on the sides. And they work brilliantly and reduce any sliding around on the vinyl seats. To give me slightly more lateral stability i took a 2 ft length of pool noodle (3 inch hard foam tubing used for swimming pool exercise), cut it in half length wise, and taped it to the front edges of the seat, before slipping the seat cover back over the top. This now hold me comfortably in place when cornering.
Together with my intermittent wipers fitted today, my car is slowly morphing into a great touring car ready for driving right round Australia next year (because it looks like Covid will be stopping me coming back to Alaska for a 4th time Crying or Very sad ) And with each new amendment, the car is becoming more and more enjoyable to use every day Very Happy

Woah, I would not have noticed if you had not pointed it out!

Funny enough I also have a red '70 and keep a mask and fire extinguisher in the same spot. Wink
