I'm doing some research getting ready to have some paint put down and while looking for factory paint codes in the Technical Section I ran across this:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/68ghia/back.jpg

If I'm reading it correctly a factory two tone roof option was an option in '68. Since my wife's car is Cherry Red the color option would be Albatross White? I looked in the Gallery and was able to find one '68 with a factory optioned roof and it was black. Am I reading this wrong?

Also I see no paint code for Albatross, any help there?

my 68 is red with a white top. it is not however a factory option. i'm the second owner and the po gave me the original invoice. the roof was painted by the dealer for $17. i've never authenticated a "factory" two tone paint job although back in the 70's i saw several blue with white top ghias that i liked a lot; even took a test drive in one that i decided i couldn't really afford.

Since it's in a sales brochure I'm thinking a dealer add-on.

Any chance of getting close up pics of the color breaks?

My local place carries PPG brand paint. The PPG code is "71511". Any other paint mfg. should be able to cross reference.

Here is a good site to bookmark:
