Primo Petrucci, no email listed
Primo was recommended by anther local enthusiast a few years ago. After meeting him at a local swap meet I decided to take my machine work to him.
Today I picked up my case, crank and flywheel and couldn't be happier.
After spot facing the case savers, he bored the case for 94mm pistons using a step cut with a chamfer and didn't go too deep. He also decked the case for the wide 94 seating surface.
He 8 dowelled the crank and flywheel, mic'd and polished the journals.
After spending time in his shop, it's obvious that he knows what he is doing. His shop is clean and organized, his bench tools are well used, his machine tools are well maintained and he will talk to you at length about what is being done there, why, and will answer any questions you have.
He also stocks a good variety of oils, sealants, engine building items and other parts you may need to finish your build. Primo is a well respected VW engine and trans builder here in the Detroit area and has decades of experience.
I would recommend him to anyone who needs aircooled engine or vw transaxle build work or machining.

I'll second all that!
I took my '62 case down there and Primo bored it for new bearings as well as doing a thrust cut. I am very impressed with all the work he did. He cleaned up the case for the thrust cut then cut the bearing to fit instead of just cutting the case down until the bearing slid in. High quality work, not the quick and easy way.
Mr Petrucci is a blast to talk to, and his work is top notch. Thanks Primo!

I used Primo for the machining on two different performance engine rebuilds and one trans rebuild. Both of these engines and the trans have been trouble free, 12+ years after being built (engine & trans in my signature have ~8000 miles of pleasure usage). His work is top-notch and prices are very fair. He has been active in high-performance VWs since the early 1970s. I recommend Primo to anyone in the SE Michigan or NW Ohio area.
He can be reached at 248-474-5007 and his home/shop is in Farmington Hills. He does not have a website. _________________ Keith Gilbert - DdK
