Hi, Whenever it rains I seem to get an excess of water in teh tailpipe/exhaust. The tailpipe is of course scalloped with the short end sticking up to the sky - so water just gets in it when it rains.
The issue is that I will stall or have to nurse the accelerator while idling until the water blows out of the taillpipe - so I believe it is enough to cause an exhaust blockage.
Ive looked for some tailpipe ends to maybe loop the tailpipe opening down. I cant find anything that looks quite right.
Has anyone had this problem, and any links to parts you may have used to resolve it? |

The tail pipe should be able to rotate down. Unbolt it and rotate it to the correct position.

| Your muffler may not be mounted correctly. Is this a conversion? |

If it is a cobbed aftermarket system and you can't rotate the tailpipe, there's always the Sawzall. Post a pic before cutting
Edit: the more I think about it, please post a video, I'm wondering if the rough post rain startup has more to do with dampness under your distributor cap, etc, than water in the tailpipe. |

thanks all for the replies! I didnt think about removing and reinstalling the tailpipe, I just assumed it only bolted on one way. When I start the car in this condition it spews out about a pint of water before it will run normally - so I dont think its the distributor (which I also just replaced two weeks ago in a tune up).
If I cant easily get the tailpipe off due to rusty bolts - I may just go the sawzall route! |

| Drill an 1/8 inch hole in the low spot of the tailpipe to keep water from collecting. That's if you don't have access to a welder or the ability to remove the bolts. |

I just bought a piece of SS tubing with a 45° bend in it and welding it in place of the original rotting steel elbow at the angle of my choice. Had the local muffler shop swell the end to get a perfect fit before doing the welding. Looks nice and should last for decades if it doesn't get crunched.
