Please post the entire contents of your M-code plate, it's one of the numbers there.

18 2
415 043119 210
SN 2312 414183 6107937
translates as built feb 18, 1966
delivered to sweden
415-
043- prepared for swiss licensing requirement
(headlights have to be on for wipers to work)
119-ebersbaecher gas heater
210-
can anyone verify the 415- or 210-?

I'm pretty sure 210 is the Double Doors.

415 = ? Possibly a Swedish thing.

Does SN = Sweden too? I have SD = Sweden.

I'll have to add some of those codes to my listings, thanks for the info.

thanks everett, i'll make note of that. anybody else? short of it being in print, i'd really like a definate. there is a good amount of data missing from these option listings. here is another possibility to explore. a panel van with loading door both sides is a model #216
this kombi on the chassis plates first 3 #'s are 236. this sequence is missing in the book "the original vw bus" by laurence meredith see pg 123 top right. the other possibility that i'm thinking is what about the first 4 # of the vin #2312. whats that second 2 doin' in there? and as for th SN that came up on vintage bus registry and the bus had a swedish registration in it as well as other stuff here and there. i brought it in from england. the seller told me it was from sweden.

For a '66 236 - 23 = Kombi and the 6 = 1966

Notice it says 231 on the M-code plate though - that is your real model #.

Also note that 209 and 211 are both m-codes for double doors, making it fairly certain that 210 is the same option. Hopefully other can confirm this fact.

I think Panelvans had an actual model (216, etc.) because Double Door Panels were such a popular order, other models it was a special option. In regards to Sweden, I have had someone from Sweden tell me that double door Buses were the norm from a certain point on because of the switch from RHD to LHD traffic.

The extra 2 at the end is the paint finish. 2 = Nitro-Lacquer finish
