well i'm in a pickle. i'm moving and putting my bus together and found i have a 002 trans not a 091.
can you fit a 002 301 103a trans with the bell housing hangers into a 78 bus with a 2.0.
i know the trans does fit on the engine, will the input shaft fit into the 2.0L?
what about the starter will it fit my fly wheel?
the worse part is i have until the 23rd to have this done.
I'm looking for a 091 but my lead time on the parts is very short. I'll take whatever help i can get. _________________ The Whingnut

My '78 had an 002 in it when I bought it; I didn't realize it until I first pulled the engine (2 liter). I bought the correct 091 trans and replaced it; it was a simple straight-out swap for me, didn't have to change anything else. _________________ 1978 Westfalia stock 2.0 FI

so far the info i have been getting is saying you can use the 002 trans but you have to have the 215mm flywheel to do so, my trans slid right up to the engine with no cuts on the bell housing so i may be ok to use it i st need a starter. the trans is the same size as the 091 for mounts, so we will try it out tonight. worse case i'll buy a 091. _________________ The Whingnut

The 210 or 215 (non 914 215) flywheels will work. If the 002 has the early bay nose hangers they will need to be swapped for the late bay nose hangers. Input shaft will not be an issue. You will need to use a 002 type starter. |

I've got all the parts just need to put it in. I was really surprised to find a starter@ advance auto. They had one on the shelf I also have a good used one so im good on parts just low on time. _________________ The Whingnut
